Introduction to Kingscote Park and the development of Matara
as a well being and meditation centre.
We moved into Kingscote Park 13 years ago; a wonderful Georgian grade 2 listed home and sanctuary, nestled in the Cotswold Hills in 28 acres of woods and parklands in a place of outstanding natural beauty.
The Matara Centre at Kingscote Park was born out of tragedy and hope and now is a place of beauty, celebration and inspiration. My partner and soul friend of 32 years, June Higgins, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. June, first and foremost, wanted to get well. She also wanted others to benefit from our journey of discovery over an 8 year period.
We discovered even in dying there can be a healing and sense of unity and wholeness. We learnt it is all too easy to hold onto life or a lifestyle for as long as you can, leaving little time or energy to live well in the present.
Together we designed Matara as a well-being centre and were excited about the possibilities that it provided. June died before the centre could be built, I continued with the project as part of my healing process, holding the intention that Matara would be a place where people would reconnect with mind, body, spirit and the natural world to experience a sense of connection and wholeness.
Just as June had wished, Matara has evolved into that special place – a meditative centre, a healing place, dedicated to the full expression of the human spirit and a deeper relationship with nature.
Throughout the building I held the energetic thought that this would be a place of mind, body and spirit connection. Somehow this seems to have happened.
At the heart of everything is the love and care that is the Matara Centre at Kingscote Park – that’s the healing
I have continued to explore the principles of well being following an integrative approach of mind, body and spirit, encouraging people to return to a sense of wholeness and harmony, where we can be at peace with ourselves and the world we live in.
Matara is dedicated to the full expression of the human spirit
First and foremost we are spiritual beings evolving towards our true essence. There are seven essence of man:
physical
astral
life force
instinctive mind
intellectual mind
Spiritual mind
Spirit
Without the development of the spiritual mind you have the current banking crisis where people have used their inelegance to satisfy their instinctive drives, ultimately driven to the edge by cunning, materistic greed. This is not a judgment, their actions are appropriate to their stage of development. What it does point to is the need for the development of spiritual intelligence.
Spiritual values include kindness, compassion, service to others, humility, unselfish love
a feeling of human brotherhood. From this prospective is hurts to see others suffer, people are moved to do something. when the pain becomes unbearable - then things change. The new values emerge and a new world is born.
Matara is an ark -You have to build the ark before the floods. The worst things become the more relevant it becomes. Today we
endeavour to do everything with love and care, providing an energetic space that is beautiful, tranquil and can inspire. Matara is becoming a powerful healing space.
The full expression of the human spirit is a inner journey towards health and happiness, peace and
fulfilment.
Here are some of the milestones:
Courage to try new things, the capacity to face fears and character defects and go on despite them. to give back as much energy that taken from the world. accepting responsibility and being accountable for ones decisions and actions
Neutrality that allows flexibility and non judgments. Become unattached to outcomes, enjoys the process and feels a sense of well being. Not interested in conflict, competition, and control, easy to get along with, enjoys the peace and calm of neutrality. This is a time of inner healing. Start to appreciate the potential for compassion and unconditional love.
Willingness to participate. cheerful, helpful. 'Do unto others as you would have them do to you'. Willingness to support and be mutual partners. Recognizes that everything happens as potentially is manifested when conditions are appropriate. Works together to co-create those conditions.
Acceptance understands oneself as the creator of experience in ones life. ability to live harmoniously with the forces of life. realizes the state of happiness is within. nothing out there to make one unhappy, love is not something is given or taken away by another but created from within. learning to accept the emergence of life on life's own terms. with this acceptance there is emotional calm. less interested in judgments and dedicated to resolve issues. takes a long term view. perceives other people with equality and values diversity within the expression of the whole
I would like to invite you to become a friend of Matara and join in a hero's journey of self discovery towards the full expression of the human spirit. We will have the opportunity help others in need help themselves and may even help the planet heal itself by being conscious in the moment and proceeding in a loving, positive and
honourable way.
Best wishes
Geoffrey
